Our Learning

In Seahorses Class, children learn through a balance of adult-led teaching, practical experiences and child-initiated play. We encourage children to explore, investigate, ask questions and develop confidence as independent learners.

Through our indoor and outdoor provision, children develop communication skills, creativity, resilience and positive relationships while building strong foundations for future learning.

For more information about the Early Years curriculum and areas of learning, please visit our EYFS page Early years foundation.

Our topics for the year are:
• Are you a real sea creature?
• Super Me
• Are you ready for change?
• Can you fly to the moon?
• Are all animals important?
• How do heroes and helpers make our world magical?

We explore our topics through a big question and immerse the children in a variety of topic-led and child-led learning experiences.

Our Classroom

Every child has their own peg and tray to help keep their belongings safe and organised. We also have our own toilet area to ensure children can access the toilet independently throughout the school day.

Independence and Classroom Life

In Seahorses class, we encourage children to become confident and independent learners. Children are supported to:

• select and return resources independently
• follow classroom routines
• develop resilience when learning becomes challenging
• work collaboratively with others
• manage their belongings
• take pride in their learning and environment

We celebrate kindness, perseverance and positive attitudes to learning every day.
